COVID-19
During the pandemic, it was discovered that some individuals were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus but showed no symptoms. Without nucleic acid testing (NAT) for donor blood screening, the risk of virus transmission through blood cannot be ruled out. Meanwhile, donor numbers have decreased due to social distancing and quarantine measures. Medical communities must adapt to treat patients, and global implementation of patient blood management standards is necessary. Future studies will help assess the true risk of transfusion-related SARS-CoV-2 transmission.
